What is LiDAR Navigation?

Overview

LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) navigation uses laser sensors to create a detailed 3D map of your home. The robot emits laser beams that bounce off walls, furniture, and obstacles, calculating distances with millimeter precision. This results in efficient, systematic cleaning paths instead of random bumping around.

Why It Matters for Indian Homes

LiDAR-equipped robots clean 2-3x faster than gyroscope-based models because they follow optimized paths. They also create accurate room maps that you can use to set no-go zones, schedule room-specific cleaning, and save multiple floor plans for multi-story homes.

How It Works

A spinning laser tower on top of the robot emits thousands of laser pulses per second. These pulses bounce off surrounding objects and return to the sensor. The robot calculates the time each pulse takes to return, building a real-time map. Advanced models combine LiDAR with cameras or structured light sensors for even better obstacle avoidance.
